Knox County Middle School Guidance Counselor
Job Function Provides a functional, comprehensive program of direct services for all children utilizing the expertise gained through professional training in the areas of school counseling, school social work or school psychology. These services will emphasize counseling children; consultation with teachers, parents and other significant adults; and coordinating a variety of activities and functions related to the academic, social, emotional and physical needs of students. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: • Plans, implements and evaluates a developmental, preventative guidance program which enhances the schools improvement plan. • Provides individual, small group, and classroom guidance and counseling for students, parents, and staff to promote student success in academics, career, and personal/social development. Page 2 of 3 • Collaborates with staff to assist the district’s compliance with federal, state, and local school mandates. • Coordinates and interprets state and district testing programs in the school. • Directs the maintenance of the permanent record system and provides such records to parents or legal guardians upon request. • Manages student records including finalizing transcripts with ranking, seals, etc. • Promotes positive school-community relationships through active participation in school and civic organizations and functions. • Coordinates honor ceremonies and other recognition programs during school year. • Monitors failing students and makes recommendations for intervention or schedule changes to administrative team. • Works with students on college applications, scholarship applications, and other advancement opportunities including dual credit and enrollment in academy programs. • May chair ARC meetings with assigned special education teachers. • Plans for and provides orientation, transition, and school programs information to students, parents, and staff. • Helps develop and implement student personal growth and well-being, career, and college opportunities. • Collaborates with staff in placing students in the most appropriate instructional program and classroom setting. • Refers to and consults with district, local, and state resources and agencies in order to promote student success. • Participates in school leadership meetings and may serve on committees. • Perform additional duties/tasks and assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor and/or Superintendent.
